Greener Apple

Macfanatic is working to reduce its Ecological FootprintIn response to the times we live in, and due to the ever-increasing amount of proof regarding the impact of human activity on our planet, Macfanatic is pleased to announce our current environmental initiative. The aim of this plan is similar to the Apple strategy, which is the plan to reduce energy consumption, minimize the use of environmentally damaging substances, and optimize the useful life of Apple products.

Macfanatic believes that every action we take has a calculable impact on our environment. In realistic terms we are a service company whose revenue is generated from working with items that are unfortunately harmful to the environment. Therefore, since May of this year, in co-operation with ERA we have been offering an electronic recycling program to computer users. Anyone is welcome to come to our main office and drop-off any computer equipment they would like to see disposed of in an environmentally friendly manner.

The Disposal Process

We can make a huge difference by recycling our old Macs

Macfanatic brings all computer equipment to the Electronic Recycling Association who, in exchange, donates computers at no charge to local schools, charities, non-profit groups, libraries, elderly homes, and other community-based organizations.

In addition, and congruent with Apple's initiatives, Macfanatic strives to minimize the amount of waste generated at our company's sites. When wastepaper, glass, metals, and plastics do arise from site activities, we ensure the materials are recycled properly. Another great example is our disposal process for batteries, which are removed and sent to special battery recyclers for dedicated metals and plastic treatment.

Here are a few more examples of Macfanatic's environmental initiatives:

  • Our 'Macfanatic' staff shirts are printed on eco-friendly, sustainable, biodegradable, 100% bamboo fabric, which is naturally grown without pesticides or fertilizers
  • Whenever possible our printing is done on 100% recycled material, including our business cards, flyers and course folders
  • The ink for our 'Green Card' printing is vegetable-based, which minimizes the use of harmful chemicals
  • Our filing system is electronic-based, which is why our customers receive e-invoices
  • Macfanatic employees take alternative transportation whenever possible to appointments and classrooms
  • Our head office has a secure bike room and is located within walking distance of a major public transit route
  • When traveling by car is necessary, we take care to schedule appointments by location, which minimizes our carbon emissions

Looking to the Future

As there is always new research and data in the ever-changing area of global climate change, we will continue to evaluate our position and the steps that we can make towards being as environmentally friendly as possible.

We hope that our efforts will both encourage and inspire other Apple users, service providers, and authorized reseller related companies/individuals to find their own ways to limit their impact on global climate change.
